The Use Of Silica Gel

- Apr 26, 2018-

Organic silicone is mainly used in aviation, cutting-edge technology, military technology, special materials and construction, electrical and electronic, automotive, machinery, chemical industry, light industry, medicine and medical care; inorganic silica is mainly used in desiccants, catalyst carriers, matting agents, Toothpaste abrasives, etc. The toughness and elasticity of silicone products are very good, they will not be deformed due to external forces, and they are non-toxic, odorless, and colorless, which will not harm the human body.

Silicone itself is not toxic, but some silicones contain additives that are harmful to the human body.

Silica gel is a highly active adsorbent material and is an amorphous material. Its chemical formula is mSiO2·nH2O. It is insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic and odorless, chemically stable, and does not react with any substance except strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid. Various types of silica gel form different microporous structures due to their different manufacturing methods. The chemical composition and physical structure of silica gel determine that it has many other similar materials that are difficult to substitute: high adsorption performance, good thermal stability, chemical stability, and high mechanical strength.

According to the size of its pore size, silica gel can be divided into: large pore silica gel, coarse pore silica gel, B-type silica gel, and fine-pored silica gel. Due to their different pore structures, their adsorption properties are unique. The coarse-pored silica gel has a higher adsorption capacity when the relative humidity is high, and the fine-pored silica gel has a higher adsorption capacity than the coarse-pored silica gel when the relative humidity is lower, and the B-type silica gel has a coarse and fine pore due to the pore structure. Between silica gel, the adsorption capacity is also between coarse and fine pores. Macroporous silica gel is generally used as a catalyst carrier, matting agent, toothpaste abrasive, and the like. Therefore, different varieties should be selected according to different uses.
